Efforts to Save Auchmar Estate Hamilton




Auchmar Estate in Hamilton is undergoing efforts to restore the building. An Ancaster News article outlines the work being undertaken as well as the vision for the future of the building.

The recent photographers day raised over $350 dollars.

If you are interested in volunteering the site is hosting a Cleaning Bee:

On September 18, we invite you to take part in our “cleaning
bee” project. Working as a community we will make this jewel
sparkle again. Watch for more information in your email box
soon, however feel free to register now if you are interested in
putting a scrub brush and some soap to good use.

Heritage Websites: Must Reads

These are the must read websites and newsletters if you want to keep updated on Ontario's Heritage current events and heritage events:

Ontario Heritage Connection
- This website is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. It posts news releases on the latest heritage events and projects.

Built Heritage News - This newsletter is put together by past ACO President, and architect Catherine Nasmith. Events, news articles, action items and commentary are submitted by heritage professionals, advocates and volunteers from all over Canada.

Architectural Conservancy of Ontario Blog and Newsletter - The blog and newsletter and manged by President of the ACO Lloyd Alter. They feature commentary on current events, ways to get involved and links to interesting articles.

Online Course on Municipal Cultural Planning

The Centre for Cultural Management at the University of Waterloo has several online course offerings for those seeking professional development in the cultural sector.

The newest course is on Municipal Cultural Planning. The outline states the following:

Course Description for Municipal Cultural Planning

Municipalities are beginning to adopt a new set of assumptions about local and regional cultural development called cultural planning. This approach features place-based planning that embraces a whole-system perspective on creativity and culture.

Vibrant, authentic places bubbling with lively cultural and entertainment options are magnets that attract and retain creative people. This creative workforce in turn generates wealth in an expanding knowledge economy.

Presentations Avalible from Cultural Mapping and Cultural Planning: Making the Connection



The Ontario Workshop took place March 2-3, 2010 at the MaRS Centre, Toronto and was Sold Out. The workshop was presented by the CCNC in partnership with the City of Toronto, Municipal Cultural Planning Incorporated and the Martin Prosperity Institute. Cultural Mapping and Cultural Planning: Making the Connection included presentations on Creative City Network of Canada’s cultural planning and mapping toolkits, panel discussions from those in the field and a facilitated discussion on what’s next to give participants the knowledge and connections to move the cultural planning agenda forward in their communities.
